Canadian Music Week: Where Music Means Business
In 1981 Canadian Music Week was created and was unlike any festival of its kind. The
difference between Canadian Music Week and other music festivals is the focus on the
business of music, not just on the music. It provides musicians with the ability to network,
perform, and learn about the dynamic music industry.
Canadian Music Week returned for its 31st year in March and continues to be
Canada’s largest and most exhilarating music and media festival. The festival has gained
positive recognition for being one of the leading entertainment events in North America with a
primary focus on the business of music.
There are five exciting days and six nights worth of events in Toronto ranging from concerts
and conferences aimed towards songwriting, sound recording and digital media. Each event is
designed to provide networking opportunities and informative sessions with valued Keynote
speakers from within the music and digital media industry.
An extensive line up of more than 2,000 International and National artists were present during
this year’s event. Those who purchased a five-day festival wristband had full access to the
various events that are offered during Canadian Music Week, including the Award Shows.
Transforming the music industry, one musician at a time through not only focusing on the
music industry, but additionally a Comedy Festival and a Film Festival highlighting Canadian
talent in all of the arts. Along with the additional festivals, Canadian Music Week also offers
cutting edge Trade Exhibitions and various Award Shows.
There were performances from more than 1,000 Canadian bands. More than 60 live music
venues from all over the city of Toronto were hosting concerts. Popular Toronto venues such
as: Hard Rock Café, Mod Club, Lee’s Palace, Phoenix Concert Theatre and were hosting concerts. Concert listings were found online and agendas were handed out during
